چکیده

Figure 1. Preoperative photograph showing the overlying melanocytic nevi. DESCRIPTION We present a 13-year-old male patient with congenital melanocytic nevi and a yearlong history of enlarging right preauricular mass. Examination revealed 2 congenital melanocytic nevi overlying a large, firm, mobile 2.7 × 2.5-cm subcutaneous mass with irregular borders. Pathology confirmed intradermal melanocytic nevi; the underlying mass was a calcified and ossified pilomatrixoma.

The risk of melanoma and neurocutaneous melanosis associated with congenital melanocytic nevi.

Congenital melanocytic nevi are commonly encountered in clinical practice. Although the development of malignant melanoma arising in small and intermediate congenital melanocytic nevi is rare, there is a significant risk of malignant degeneration associated with large congenital melanocytic nevi, in particular those that arise on the torso in the so-called "bathing trunk" distribution, where th...

Risk of melanoma arising in large congenital melanocytic nevi: a systematic review.

Large congenital melanocytic nevi are cutaneous lesions regarded by many as premalignant; estimates of malignancy incidence range from 0 to 42 percent. Given the often complex and extensive nature of large congenital melanocytic nevi resection and reconstruction, the risk of malignant transformation is a crucial factor that surgeons and families must weigh when deciding whether or not to excise...

Estrogen Receptor Beta Expression in Melanomas Versus Dysplastic Nevi

Dear Editor-in-ChiefMalignant melanoma is a tumor arising from melanocyte; this tumor rarely occurs before puberty, with higher mortality rate in males and better survival rate in female patients affected by metastatic melanoma (1, 2). These facts propose that a relationship and association may exist between estrogens and melanoma. The effects of estrogens are mediated by...

Large nevi are usually associated with a higher risk of malignant transformation into melanoma. Acquired melanocytic nevi can be classified into typical melanocytic nevi, clonal nevi, or halo nevi. Cytological atypia can be ob...
